Five Star, an imprint of Gale, part of Cengage Learning, debuted in 1995 with four original Western titles published in hardcover format. These first edition Westerns have earned rave reviews in Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and Booklist, with hundreds of titles reviewed to date. Western Writers of America has honored multiple Five Star Western titles with Spur Awards for their superior quality.
In November of 1998, we began the Five Star Mystery line. In August 2000, the Mystery line increased in title count and became exclusively first edition publications. To date, Five Star mysteries have earned many starred reviews, Edgar? Award and Anthony Award nominations, and many titles have been listed on regional bestseller lists.
In July 2013, we will launch the Frontier Fiction line. This line features a wide range of sub-genres in the western fiction field from well-known authors and emerging voices.

What type of Submissions are you looking for?:

Submissions must be original manuscripts, not yet published in any format in mystery and frontier fiction genres.
We require submission exclusivity, no simultaneous submissions are accepted.
Various sub-genres of mystery (crime, romantic suspense, thriller, dystopian, cozy, etc.) and frontier fiction (HF, Westerns, Frontier Romance, Frontier Mystery, Western Crime, etc.) are of interest.

    I am checking around for a new publisher as the one I have now cannot publish as many as I write. I have fans that want a new novel at least every three months. I write westerns with every location true to the times. Please check out my web site where I personally sell and sell twenty to 90 novels a month. People that want novels signed order from me. I was the only author invited to the National Barbwire convention in Moriarty, New Mexico where I sold one hundred and sixty one novels in six hours and many more to those people in the last year.

    http://www.gateswoodbooks.com I have finished a novel that is quite lengthy I’m looking to get published by a well known publisher as Five Star Publishing if possible. I love your website and have read most of your western authors.
    My novel “ Run Johnny Run,” is quite long, a tad over hundred thousand words, it is on disc in Microsoft Word. It has been professional edited and finished. In 1876 in southern Montana a log cabin was burned down by the by the Lakota, Cheyenne Indians the only survivor was a 11 year-old boy Johnny Herein.
    I personally think will be a good read for the entire family, there is no vulgar language or text to embarrass mom or dad if Jr. gets hold of the novel. I am a cow boy from South Alabama and love to write.

    I have a complete manuscript I would like to submit. Title: YOUNG OUTLAWS (almost). It is about several young boys all under the age of twelve that do fantastic things in the old west. Every location in my novels are true and can be visited today.
