Ancient Paths literary magazine publishes poetry, flash fiction, art, and photography with subtle religious themes. The works featured in Ancient Paths explore struggles with faith, gratitude for God’s gifts, grief, love, forgiveness, redemption, Biblical characters, and other such themes. Founded in 1998, Ancient Paths has produced a total of 17 print issues, although it is presently an online-only, regularly updated Facebook publication. Ancient Paths was a Merit Award Winner in the 2000 Writer’s Digest National ‘Zine Publishing Awards and has regularly nominated works for the Pushcart Prize. The magazine has featured works by Nicholas Samaras, Carol Oberg, Paul David Adkins, Edoardo Albert, Mark McKenna, Teresa Burleson, Ida Fasel, Barry W. North, and many other talented poets and authors. Ancient Paths is edited and published by the novelist and poet Skylar Hamilton Burris, who is author of An Unlikely Missionary and Conviction as well as a collection of poetry titled A Greater Sound by Far. The magazine’s website contains an archive of selected literature, submission guidelines, poetry book reviews, and advice for writers. By following the Facebook page, you will receive regular updates of new poetry and flash fiction on a weekly basis.
Submissions
We seek poetry, formal or free verse, to 40 lines and flash fiction to 900 words. All works should have Christian or universal religious themes. These themes should be subtle and your works shoul not be didactic.
