From the Publisher
Fat Dog Books is an independent online publisher founded on the premise that if our experience with reading a manuscript is satisfying and engages our intellect and imagination, then it might just do the same for other readers. We grew from a long partnership with another reputable, online publisher, Martin Sisters Publishing, and found the experience of working with authors so enjoyable that we decided to establish our own publishing company. Combined, the staff has over 40 years of experience in publishing, editing, writing, and design. Fat Dog Books is a traditional, royalties-paying publisher. Authors are not charged any fees for editing, design or marketing services. All our titles are softcover, print on demand. We are aggressively seeking new authors and new works at this time, whether or not the author has any prior publishing credits or a literary agent; the work will speak for itself.
Submissions
Fat Dog Books reviews previously unpublished manuscripts of between 60k-120k words, favoring stories that emphasize plot progression and character development rather than a specific writing style or genre, or following current trends. Although we are not publishing genre fiction at this time, we do give special consideration to stories that illuminate the human spirit and despite tragic circumstances, ultimately leave the reader with a positive and uplifting message.
Fat Dog Books will also consider manuscripts aimed at the middle grades and young adult readers, mainstream stories that may involve sports, young love/friendship or coming of age issues. We are not accepting submissions for poetry, science fiction, horror, romance, vampire, or westerns. And please, no children’s or picture books. Your target audience should be 13 years or older.
Yes, Fat Dog Books will consider nonfiction submissions, however the subject matter should not be so narrow that it would only appeal to a very small segment of the population. For example, a book about the evolution of medieval thought is not a subject that we would likely publish.
Fat Dog Books favors the following categories when reviewing nonfiction submissions: self-help, how-to, health, lifestyle, entertainment, social media, business, politics, journals, biographies, and memoirs. Fat Dog Books is not interested in reviewing: history, religion, academic, comic, science, art, photography, travel or cook books.
