New Directions is one of the leading independent literary publishers in the United States. Founded in 1936 by James Laughlin, New Directions has published many iconic authors of 20th century literature, including Ezra Pound, Tennessee Williams, Vladimir Nabokov, Denise Levertov, and Pablo Neruda among others. Based in New York City, they continue to publish poetry, fiction, and prose by both new and established authors.

New Directions publishes mostly poetry and fiction, with some nonfiction and drama. This includes novels, short stories, poetry collections, essays, criticism, and plays.
