  1. There are many things that our editors look for. But one of the most important things is following the submission guidelines(as far as technically goes) Far too many times do we come across submitters who submit incorrectly. Also we look for submissions that are unique and don’t necessarily follow strict poetic or literary rules by the book. We want authors to have unique voices.

  2. I would have to agree with others here that we want to see both a professional presentation and adherence to submission guidelines. Beyond that, strong characters and or a unique perspective will get our attention. We are a fiction magazine that publishes poetry, short fiction and art. The same sparkly vampire bit or shock flash fiction peppered with expletives won’t pique our interest.

  3. I agree that following submission guidelines has to be one of the biggest issues we have at EWR. We only publish flash fiction on our short stories site 500 words or less. I get 20 submissions per month that are far far beyond that limit.
