From the Editor
After Hours is a semi-annual literary magazine publishing poetry, fiction, art, and photography from Chicago area writers and artists (this includes Chicago expats). The magazine was launched in June of 2000 and has published consistently twice per year since then featuring such Chicago writers as Stuart Dybek, Rane Arroyo, Marc Smith, Cin Sallach, Charlie Newman, Norbert Blei, and many other notables. We believe that the “Chicago” voice, though that can be as diverse as our city, carries the honesty and individuality of jazz or blues music.
WHAT TYPE OF SUBMISSIONS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
From their site: We have quite a legacy … Nelson Algren, Carl Sandburg, Richard Wright, Sandra Cisneros, Stuart Dybek, Gwendolyn Brooks, Saul Bellow, Sherwood Anderson, Ernest Hemingway (if he hadn’t left town), and so many others. These are writers in whose words you could hear the roar of the el passing behind your apartment, could smell the lake, could see the tired souls who work their way through life. These are writers who shed the illusions spun from ivory towers and took up the sound and fury of neighborhood taverns, back yards and front stoops.
Submissions
We are open to all styles, but our editorial tastes do not lean toward the overly experimental. We are most interested in new and/or established voices filled with passion and sincerity.
After Hours is seeking submissions for ongoing issues. Please read the following guidelines carefully.
Deadline for submissions:
March 31/Summer Issue
September 30/Winter Issue.

Kim Atherfold says
I have written a short original article on the work of emerging Detroit Artist Felicia Forte. Here is the introduction.
“Immerse yourself in the work of a talented Detroit artist. A virtuoso dynamically projecting representational paintings into the realm of contemplative art.”
I am happy for you to publish it.
