From the Editor
Little Leaf Literary Journal is a new online literary journal, founded in 2024. We publish prose, poetry, and pieces that cross the boundaries of both genres. We aim to provide a space for new, emerging, and published writers to experiment with form, content, and self-expression. We publish previously unpublished prose, poetry, and pieces that span both genres. We aim to publish digital issues are published twice per year, in the fall and spring. Currently, we are publishing work on a rolling basis. As a small, independent, newly established journal, Little Leaf aims to provide a response within one week of submitting your work. We also currently charge no reading fee. All writers are welcome to submit their work. Please review our guidelines before submitting. Little Leaf is a passion project. “If I am really able to care for the sticky little leaves I shall only love them, remembering you.” (Dostoevsky)
Submissions
Little Leaf is currently accepting submissions on a rolling basis with no reading fee. Our favorite poems make use of rhyme, meter, assonance, and consonance in unique ways, even within free verse. Our favorite short stories are told from underrepresented, undervalued points of view. While we love literary fiction, elements of sci-fi, romance, dystopian, and historical fiction are always welcome, too. We also adore prose poetry that toes the line of what counts as each. We accept submissions of unpublished poetry (including prose poetry) and short fiction from new, emerging, and established writers. For poetry, we are looking for poems that can fit on 1-2 pages (in 12 pt. Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins). All genres and subject matters are welcome, but we reserve the right to include content warnings. Prose poetry is always welcome, as are poems that make creative use of rhyme and meter. Poets may submit 1-5 poems for consideration—please include a title for each piece. For short fiction, we are looking for pieces up to 6,000 words long. We are open to submissions of literary fiction, contemporary fiction, historical fiction, and literary or contemporary fiction that includes elements of fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, and/or romance. Please include just 1 short story per submission. Excerpts of longer pieces are also welcome, if they can stand alone.
