    About the Publication

Welcome to The Modern Artist, a literary magazine dedicated to exploring what it means to be an artist in today’s fast-changing, technology-driven world. As artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation continue to reshape creative spaces, the role of the human artist is being redefined, and, at times, overshadowed. Debates surrounding AI-generated art dominate headlines and academic discourse, yet the voices of real artists, the very people most affected, are often missing from these conversations. The Modern Artist was founded to address this exclusion. We believe artists must be active participants in shaping the cultural and philosophical dialogue around the future of art. Through fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art, we aim to provide a platform for creators to speak honestly and authentically about their experiences, fears, hopes, and artistic visions in a landscape that’s constantly evolving. Art has always carried the potential to challenge societal norms, ignite change, and provoke meaningful reflection. In this era of rapid technological advancement, its role is more urgent than ever. We believe that by using art as both a mirror and a tool of resistance, we can better explore the shifting boundaries of authorship, originality, and meaning-making in a world increasingly influenced by machines. Our magazine is open to all artists grappling with these questions—whether through traditional forms or innovative, interdisciplinary approaches. We are particularly interested in work that engages with the intersections of art, identity, labor, and technology, and that reflects the emotional and intellectual complexities of creating in the modern world. At its heart, The Modern Artist is a space for reclaiming the narrative of what it means to create. Join us in our mission to amplify artistic voices, illuminate contemporary truths, and help shape the future of art on human terms. Submissions are welcome from both emerging and established artists.

    Submissions

We are looking for work that thoughtfully reflects on or engages with your identity as an artist. This could include how you relate to your craft, how your background or personal experiences shape your creative process, or how you navigate the evolving artistic landscape in today’s world. We are particularly interested in submissions that explore these themes in fresh, unconventional, or experimental ways—whether that means pushing genre boundaries, blending mediums, or offering perspectives that are often underrepresented in the broader art world. Your identity as an artist is deeply personal, and we welcome work that is bold, introspective, vulnerable, or visionary. What does it mean to be a creator in the current cultural or technological moment? How do your lived experiences inform what you make and why? Please refer to our submission guidelines for more details on the types of work we accept and how to share your voice with us.
