From the Editor
Madcap Review is a semiannual online journal of literature and art. As our name indicates, we embrace the impulsive, the reckless, and the lively, but we also have great respect for form and restraint. Founded in 2014 by a group of fiction writers, poets, and artists, Madcap is a platform for any and all forms of writing and art. We have no genre restrictions, because we believe that great writing isn’t easily categorized. We believe in treating artwork with respect, and will never charge for submissions. Issue 1 features work by John Keene, Alison Kinney, Marcia Aldrich, Bianca Stone, Elizabeth Inness-Brown, E.E. Lyons, Phlegm, Ever, Rone, and others.
Submission
We’re looking for good work. It’s as simple as that. Madcap has no restrictions on content. We only ask that you send us work you’re proud of. We asked some of our editors what draws them to a piece of writing. Here’s what they said:
“I know a good poem if I miss it like a friend when it’s over—or when I feel like the roof is suddenly gone and all the stars are out.” Emily Stokes, Managing Editor
“I like poems that break my ankles…. I’m chasing what’s in the poem out of sheer anxiety and curiosity…” Jeffrey Peterson, Poetry Editor
“The work resonates most with me when I’m able to connect with a character on a basic level. In those instances, it feels like a bonus.” Sarah Kuhn, Fiction Editor
Upcoming
Submissions for Issue 2 open September 1st.
