From the Editor
Founded in 2012 and published twice a year, Hypnos is now seeking submissions for its sixth issue (to be published on October 31, 2014). We seek to promote weird fiction and the related genres of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. Relevant examples include H.P. Lovecraft, Lord Dunsany, Algernon Blackwood, Ambrose Bierce, M.R. James, Edgar Allan Poe, and Arthur Machen. In addition to paying up to $50 for submissions, we also offer the Arthur Machen Prize for Weird Fiction, which pays the author of our best submission $200.
Submissions
We are currently accepting science fiction, fantasy, and horror. We prefer bold, innovative work over conventional stories of vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and goblins, but we are always open-minded. It would be difficult – at this point in time – to write an original vampire story, but if you have done so, please send it to us. We are especially interested in works that explore religious and spiritual issues through the lens of weird fiction.
Upcoming
On October 31, 2014, we will award the Arthur Machen Prize for Weird Fiction, which pays the author of our best fall submission $200.
