From the Editor
We like old westerns. Hank Williams is one of our favorite writers. Used boots are better than new boots. At Cowboy Jamboree we promote writing that leans the same way. If it is western, western noir, new south, folk, or rural, it is our kind of writing, fiction or non-.
Cowboy Jamboree is dedicated to publishing Quarterly those stories and creative non-fiction pieces that stir our passions for the people and places that we call rural, be they about the woods, the South, the hills of Kentucky, or the western plains. We prefer our writing to have some grit and rough edges, but we can be bowled over by writing of beauty and refinement as well. See our submissions page for guidelines on getting your stuff read for publication.
Submissions
For the inaugural issue of Cowboy Jamboree we are looking for fiction and non-fiction western or rural writings that conjure, fight, or accept Death, however that may come. Listen to Ralph Stanley sing on it and you’ll get an idea of what we’re searching for. Special guest author James Reasoner will be contributing an article on his 10 favorite western writers.
