ARTWIFE
Website
From the Editor
We’re a brand new digital literary and arts magazine. We publish essays, short stories, visual art, and video art. ARTWIFE exists to serve as an oasis of art and beauty. We have deep reverence for human expression and we demand attention to craft in all the work we publish. ARTWIFE believes that a magazine’s digital platform deserves attention and care, and that design and presentation are not secondary to the vision. Rather, we believe that beauty and artistry can and should be embedded in every part of the project. Attending to our magazine’s aesthetic is one way that we can respect and amplify the work of our contributors. We are currently only available online, with no print version. This allows us to keep submission fees free or very minimal, and it also allows us to host video art. We publish work on a rolling basis, rather than putting out editions on a regular schedule. This allows us to be very selective and only accept for publication the work that meets our high aesthetic standard. We have no imperative to accept work just so we can fill an issue. We are proud members of CLMP (the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses). CLMP requires that all of its members meet a bar of ethics and transparency, which we support and are happy to adhere to. In addition to our website, we also have a presence on Instagram and Facebook, where creators can discover us and engage with the work of other creators. All of our website design and graphics are created in-house, by our founding editor Hannah Harlee. It is our great honor and privilege to amplify the work of artists and to create more beauty in the world. We welcome submissions from both emerging and established artists. Submissions are accepted through our Submittable platform.
Submissions
In the literary arts categories, we publish fiction and nonfiction. We accept short stories and essays up to 4000 words. We also love and welcome flash submissions. We publish literary and narrative-driven work and we are unlikely to publish genre pieces (including horror, sci-fi, writing for children and young adults, etc.). We do not accept poetry submissions. In the visual art category, we look for high-quality works across a range of mediums, including photography, paint, charcoal, pen and ink, mixed-media, collage, and more. We accept up to 5 submissions at a time and we particularly love publishing a series of pieces from one artist. In the video art category, we’re looking for artful and editorial videos up to 90 seconds long. This can include animation, digital creation, and videography. Video submissions do not need to be driven by narrative. Submitters may have one active submission in each category at a time.
