Information about your publication: | Barge Journal, published by Barge Press, based out of Pittsburgh, PA. A barge is a boat; it carries large loads of coal down the river. Barge is a new Journal and press; it carries new and innovative literature. Our goal is to always question the status quo of literary “craft”, to broaden the audience that a lit journal would normally reach, and to promote writing as a true artistic form. We believe the conversation of contemporary writing is at a crossroads between innovation and stagnancy — obviously, we choose the former. Barge pays $10 for work that appears on our website and two editors’ awards of up to $100 in our print edition. |
What type of submissions you are looking for: | Barge Journal reads unsolicited submissions year round. Submit through our submissions manager on the website. We seek experimental fiction and poetry as well as (emphasis on the creative part) creative non-fiction — though we prefer non-genre, non-classifiable work above all. Long story short, this isn’t the place to submit your literary fiction or formal poetry. |
Information on Contests: | Barge Journal #1 will be released in June, with two release parties in July: Dance Dance Party (21 and over), and Dystopian World’s Fair (all ages.) To keep up to date for more details, add Barge Press on Facebook or twitter. |
