From the Editor
Poet K. Augustus launched literary journal Claudius Speaks as a venue to celebrate emerging talent in art and literature. The first issue features an interview with Pushcart Prize-nominee Aurvi Sharma, rising photographer David Hastings, and the winners of a poetry contest inspired by the prompt, “the flicker of a candle.” We are currently soliciting submissions for our second issue, “Song.”
Claudius Speaks takes its name from Rome’s fourth emperor, a bungling stutterer surrounded by smooth operators, who nevertheless took his place at the head of a fledgling empire and reigned with prosperity not seen since the last days of the Republic. His patient cunning was not invalidated by the trips and starts of his speech pattern. What matters is that when Claudius did finally speak, he was heard. Our mission is to provide the conditions under which new artists of all stripes can do the same. Claudius has also launched Claudius Keepsakes ), a collection of products that celebrate the beauty in everyday things.
Submissions
Claudius Speaks is a platform for emerging voices to challenge the mind and move the heart. We seek personal essays, narrative nonfiction, poetry, photography, painting, and illustration. A central aspect of our mission is to shine a light on less-established writers and artists.
