From the Editor
Dark times call for dark literature.
Coffin Bell is a quarterly online journal of dark literature seeking poetry, flash fiction, short stories, and creative nonfiction exploring dark themes. When we say “dark themes,” we don’t necessarily mean traditional horror. Send us your waking nightmares, dark CNF, dystopian flash, cursed verse. Surprise us. Make us think in a new way. Give us a new fear. Make our skin crawl.
We publish great dark literature, no matter who you are, what your publication history looks like, or where you went to school. We keep a mix of new, emerging, and established authors in our journal. We also do an interview series called “Thirteen Questions” with select contributors and publish those on our web site. We want to foster a relationship with the writers we publish, not just have the acceptance and publication be transactional and a one-time thing. We love our contributors, and have a Facebook group called Coffin Bell Coven, designated for contributors and friends of the journal, where we keep up with new publications, promotions, and news of past and current contributors so we can continue to promote their work in our Contributor Crypt. We also publish a monthly newsletter every thirteenth called “Lucky Thirteen,” featuring news and announcements, book spotlights, a serial story by our associate editor, and other eldritch ephemera.
We read submissions year-round, and at the end of the year we compile a print anthology of selected publications from that year. Contributors to the print anthology receive a complimentary copy. (All submissions are automatically considered for the print anthology.) We only accept online submissions through Submittable for poetry, flash fiction, short stories, and creative nonfiction. We accept submissions of art via email, at coffinbelljournal@gmail.com.
Issue publication schedule is as follows:
Issue No. 1: January 1 (unthemed)
Issue No. 2: April 1 (themed)

Elizabeth Harper says
Hello,
I haven’t received a response yet regarding my concern about a publication on your site.
It’s called Four Uterine Flowers.
My name is used, and deeply private details about my life are revealed.
I never gave that author permission to do so,
And this is a violation of my right to privacy.
Please do what’s right, and take the necessary steps to have it removed.
