From the Editor
The Elan literary magazine is a publication of the Creative Writing program at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Fl. Its creation in 1986 was fueled by a passion for the written word that inspired students to use their own time after school to produce the publication. Today, a staff of 17 junior and senior Creative Writers has class time to work on the magazine, which we consider the strongest example of our department’s mission to study and hone the craft of creative writing.
From the site:
Élan is an international student literary magazine published by the Creative Writing department at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida.
Originally created as a grassroots publication of the English Department in 1986, Élan found its permanent home upon the creation of the Douglas Anderson Creative Writing Department in 1990, overseen by Jacquelin Jones.
Submissions
Elan literary magazine is accepting original fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and plays from writers 14- to 18-years-old. We are seeking original, nuanced work from around the nation and the world to launch our first of two annual online publications and for consideration in our year-end print edition.
From the site:
Élan accepts original fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, screenwriting, plays, and all kinds of art from students ages fourteen to eighteen in high school in locations internationally. We produce two online editions a year, one in the Fall/Winter and another in the Spring/Summer. The two editions are combined into a single Print Edition each Summer.
All writers and artists who have their work chosen for the Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer Edition will be mailed a free copy of the Print Edition in which their piece appears. Élan holds first serial rights for material that we publish. The copyright automatically reverts to the author upon publication.
