From the site:
“Flash fiction” is a term that was coined in the 1990s for very short stories, generally under 1000 words. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, such stories in English were often referred to as “sudden fiction” or “short-short” fiction. The concept, however, has been around for much longer, dating back to the fables, folktales, myths, and parables of the ancient world.
Here at Flash Fiction Online, we categorize “flash fiction” as a complete story of 500-1000 words.
Submissions
Flash fiction is short, but it still tells a story. We like characters who move us. A fully formed story arc done in under 1000 words in the writing style of your choice. We like science fiction, fantasy, horror, mainstream, and literary fiction done in both traditional and more experimental ways.
Flash Fiction Online has published stories from both new and established authors across the globe. We love narratives with crisp prose, well-developed characters with emotional arcs, fascinating plots, and satisfying resolutions. We want works that engage our minds and emotions and that leave us with a sense of awe or give us something to muse on. We’re always on the hunt for something new, surprising, clever, or beautiful.
