About the Publisher
Life in Limbo is a publication devoted to documenting personal experiences with mental illness and trauma, valuing authenticity and emotional honesty over conventional literary polish. We aim to create space in the literary world for young individuals who want to creatively express their mental health struggles without conforming to traditional literary expectations.
Whether navigating the disorientation of psychosis or experiencing the heaviness of depression, we understand what it means to exist in a suspended state between worlds. We’re looking for raw, unfiltered accounts of these experiences. Our goal is to build a community where people discover they aren’t facing these challenges alone.
We welcome submissions from individuals of all backgrounds, recognizing that mental health issues impact people across every demographic. While we particularly encourage contributions from younger voices (teens through age 25) due to the current youth mental health crisis, this isn’t a strict requirement.
Submissions
We are interested in hearing raw emotion, authenticity, and powerful truth of mental illness and/or trauma over literary verbiage. We want to hear from ALL people, regardless of demographic, as we know mental illness and trauma can affect any and everyone. We are especially interested in hearing from young voices, from teenage years through 25, as there is a youth mental health crisis, but this is not a rule. We are open to accepting fiction, nonfiction, micro memoir, auto-fiction, poetry, prose, and visual art. We accept on a quarterly basis, and the deadline for the summer issue is June 15th, 2025. We are not able to provide compensation for submissions. We accept simultaneous submissions and previously published work. By submitting, you are agreeing that: you retain copyright to your work, you grant us first publication rights if your piece is chosen, you allow us to publish your work in both print and digital formats, and you can republish your work elsewhere after 3 months.
Upcoming
Submissions for our first issue (summer) is due June 15th.
