Information about your publication |
Guest editors who are faculty–novelists, short story writers, poets, essayists–in the UMSL MFA program rotate into the class that selects the work. The class is made up of advanced MFA students with publications of their own, so our first readers are not the typical undergraduates or community volunteers. We take work all year long, but do not read between May 1 -August1, so a summer submission will sit for a long time before the author gets a response. We also do translations at times, very short fiction or poetry. We feature a three part interview, also, a rather whimsical Q&A with an emerging fiction writer or poet or essayist, then an interview with his or her publisher and with a fan. We seek to highlight the connection of sensibilities or perspective or aesthetic. |
What type of submissions are you looking for? |
Good literary work. Not too interested in genre. |

February 8 on our campus we will hold a symposium on literary publishing and will hear short talks by editors of journals in Missouri and Illinois, as well as a party after to celebrate the 15th year of Natural Bridge. This anniversary coincides with the campus’s 50th anniversary. This is a free night of information on how and why to be published, a chance to drink and meet with editors, to get to know writers and editors. It begins at 7 pm, goes to about 10, on Friday night. It will be in the JC Penny conference center. For more info, contact Mary Troy at marytroy@umsl.edu , or Natural Bridge at natural@umsl.edu |
