From the publisher
Papercuts is the bi-annual literary magazine of Desi Writers Lounge – an online workshop for writers of South Asian origin and writing on South Asia. Both DWL and Papercuts are run entirely on a voluntary basis. The magazine provides a space to showcase work of DWL members, but since its eighth issue in summer 2011, Papercuts has been open for writing submissions from the general public. In addition to poetry and fiction, Papercuts also includes articles, interviews, reviews, a blog section for which our readers submit entries, and a YouTube channel with exclusive A/V content. Each Papercuts issue is released in a ‘rolling format’ whereby a batch of new material is published every month, keeping the magazine a living, evolving entity all year. Unlike most publications of its kind, the Papercuts editorial team goes through extensive editing with the authors before pieces are published.
Submissions Type
There is a theme for each issue, which can be found on the submission guidelines page. The theme for Volume 13 (the January 2014 issue) is Metropolis. We are looking for poems, stories and essays that examine the big city life, from out on the streets to the confines of apartments, from the business districts to the red light areas. Paint us a picture of urban existence.
