From the Editor
An anthology of “place-based” fiction, poetry, memoir, and nonfiction, Placed seeks to explore our symbiotic relationship with historic places, architecture, and geography through the voice of literature.
Submissions
A wide range of topics will be accepted, but works exploring themes of settlement, shelter, landscape, pilgrimage, displacement, destruction, spaces in social contexts, sacred spaces, symbolic architecture, and vernacular architecture are of particular interest.
“Place-based” fiction we define as literature which utilizes its setting(s) as an integral player in character and/or chronological development within a story. They are not merely a passive background upon which a story unfolds but rather a character unto themselves, both shaping and being shaped by the interactions within a work. We also accept nonfiction submissions related to the topics of heritage management, historic preservation and interpretation, cultural geography, materials conservation, history, archaeology, and anthropology.
