From the Editor
Semaphore Magazine publishes poetry and short fiction. We post work online twice weekly and produce two print editions each year. The print editions are composed of our favorite works published online, as well as a fair amount of previously unpublished material. All work published online is considered for the print edition.
Submissions
Semaphore is a system for communicating over great distances using flags. At Semaphore Magazine we are interested in language that calls attention to its own inability to communicate our individual truths. At the same time, we recognize that language is the only way we can form meaningful connections, the only way we can span the great existential gaps between each other.
We are interested in work that explores human relationships, particularly the role of language to both thwart and permit intimacy. We like work that explores the gritty and murky side of life. Work that is unblinking in the face of human suffering, but which lands us always on the side of love and compassion.
