From the Editor
The Dawn Review is a quarterly print and online literary magazine that celebrates diverse voices and perspectives. We seek to publish emerging and established writers who bring fresh insight to contemporary issues. We are especially interested in work that explores themes of social justice, equality, and empathy. Our readers value fiction, poetry, essays, and art that reflect the richness of human experience. We welcome submissions from writers of all backgrounds. We aim to be a platform for voices that often go unheard.
Submissions
We welcome submissions in all genres- fiction, poetry, nonfiction, drama, graphic narratives, and more. For prose, we consider pieces up to 8,000 words, though most of our stories and essays range from 1,000 to 5,000 words. We suggest 3-6 poems per submission, with no length requirements. For plays and graphic narratives, please query the editors first.
We are drawn to work with distinctive style, compelling characters, and a strong sense of place and cultural context. We want writing that transports and transforms us. Subject matter is open, but we are especially compelled by pieces related to diversity, migration, belonging, justice, identity, family, and the environment. We are interested in work that takes formal risks and displays expert command of craft.
While we appreciate submissions at all times, we do have seasonal preferences. In spring and summer, we are especially seeking fiction and graphic narratives. Poetry and nonfiction are reviewed year-round, with a slight preference for fall and winter months. Please check our website for full details on what we are currently prioritizing.
Upcoming
We also hold the Dawn Review Contest for Emerging Voices each summer. The contest is open to writers who have not yet published a book and is free to enter. The winner in each genre – fiction, poetry, nonfiction – receives $1,000 and publication. Finalists are considered for our winter print issue. The submission period runs from June 1 through July 31.
