Information about your publication: | The editors of Works & Days began with a simple concept: that there are too many concepts out there. They wanted a way to present new work in a straightforward manner, without gimmicks, criticism, or advertising. They also wanted to present multiple kinds of work in a single space: photography, writing, painting, poetry, film, recipes, illustration, music, dance, or any other media. Our aim is to harness the immediacy of the Internet to present something of lasting value, Cissell said recently. This quarterly is an anti-blog in that sense: updating content exactly four times a year frees our contributors to go more in depth and engage in longer-format ideas?things the Web would seem ill-suited for, but we aim to change that. If anything, Works & Days exists to challenge the notion that the Internet is only good for the fleeting and ephemeral.” |
What type of submissions are you looking for?: | When considering what to submit for inclusion, please keep in mind the quarterly schedule of our online publication – each issue is on display for exactly three months and subsequently archived. Accordingly, we seek content of a lasting quality (more substantial than what might be submitted to a monthly or weekly publication) and we encourage you to take full advantage of the space we have created. Selection is based on the quality of workmanship and on the fluctuating requirements/considerations unique to each issue. Each unique issue is a collection with specific, if organic, curatorial bounds within which a given piece of excellently crafted work may or may not fit. We strongly encourage you to refer to current and previous issues to get a feel for the nature of the publication before deciding what to submit. |
