Dear Writers,
We’re excited to announce our open call for submissions! While we’re especially interested in holiday-themed works, we welcome fiction (up to 10,000 words) and poetry (up to 6 poems) on any subject. Whether you want to send shivers down our spines, warm our hearts, spread holiday cheer, or explore entirely different themes, we want to hear from you!

Submission Guidelines:
- Fiction: Up to 10,000 words
- Poetry: Up to 6 poems per submission
- Please specify if your submission is for a specific holiday theme in your cover letter
- All submissions will be considered for publication on our website

We’re accepting submissions on a rolling basis, so feel free to send your works anytime. Whether it’s a chilling Halloween tale in the middle of spring, a heartwarming Christmas story during summer, or a thought-provoking piece on any topic, we’re always excited to read fresh material!

Can we use ai like grammerly to correct our grammatical errors, add punctuation and refine our poems or stories?
Yes, but if AI detectors identify your work as over a 80% chance of being AI, we will reject your entry. Many of our previous entries were identified as 100% AI. So just keep it in mind. I believe editing software is far different than just generating dozens of AI entries.
What about the 6 word horror results? Any word on the winning entry yet?
Good for you! I’m so glad you’re able to tell which writers used AI. I do NOT want AI writing to become the norm. Now I’m off to look at the cheating entry, if it’s still here, or his other work, to see if i could tell. How do you know?

Do you have a winner for the End of 2024 Horror Writing Contest? The only entries I see are mine. Did you decide not to have the contest after all? I am new to all of the writing competitions. I recently wrote my first novel and would love the free publicity. I also love your site and all of the prompts. Horror is my favorite genre and telling a spooky or disturbing story is what I love to do.
