Empires
by Mike Ambrose
She is like
a boy
becoming
a man,
cocooned
within
his self-spun mortality –
Proud,
full of
his own myopic sound
on
finally being fully grown,
yet never
realizing
that each
hour
brings
closer
inevitable
decay –
barely
perceptible at first,
until the
moment comes
when all
that remains
are torn
and faded flags
limping
at half-mast.

I am an engineering executive at a New England aerospace company with degrees from the University of New Haven and MIT. I started publishing my poems in 2010 and really enjoy the balance that writing provides in a life that is very exact. In the short time that I have been writing, my work has been published in over a dozen publications includingLucid Rhythms, Corner Club Press, Literary Brushstrokes, Decades Review, Boston Literary Magazine, and Grey Sparrow Journal among other publications.
