The Stoppies

by Maria Sebastian

Fitzgerald’s nickname for writer’s block on my mind,
I toss toward our bedroom window at 4am, half asleep,

just enough snow fallen on the café awning
to create a glow around white holiday lights.

I wonder how long the quiet will last.

Probably longer than me, back to dreaming already:
Fitzgerald, still at the bar, squeezing the place dry

for nothing…nothing…nothing…
all he’s good for tonight, melting some virgin snow.
