Profile: Soter Lucio
I am a great grandmother, ironer by day horror writer by night. Been published by Sirens Call, Migla Press and Weird Mask. Have a collection of horror on Smashword and live alone. I started writing in 1983 when my twin was born, but five years later I put it on the back burner to get my children across the bridge in one piece with their baskets full. I have a son eight years older than the
girls. So when their education was complete, and I was satisfied that they're settled in their respective professions, I dusted the old typewriter and began writing again. But guess what? The writing world had changed drastically. Gone were the papers and envelopes and stamps. In it's place was computers and email and submitables! But no matter, I said, 'it's my time now.' Told my daughter I'm starting my writing the following day. When i got home from ironing, I met a laptop on the kitchen counter. "Mummy, go write your stories." Since then there's been no turning back. A crash course in computer literacy, word program installed and I was happy like pappy! I managed to get my first submission accepted! A helluva start! That was a few years ago. I was sixty one.
I love horror. The writing and the telling of it. I grew up in the mountainous region of Trinidad in the West Indies. With no electricity and lots of rivers and springs. Climbing trees was a favorite pastime. Church services every Sunday with the ever present threat of hell and damnation should we ever go wrong. Is it any wonder I choose to write horror? The stories we listened to were all of soucouyant and douen or lougarou and La Diablesse. To hear about a chicken wearing glasses or a donkey wearing slippers was no big deal. That was the norm. I thought that happened everywhere until I left at age eighteen and went to live and work in the city. I have been writing stories a few years now and enjoying it. I get some accepted, I get some rejected. All in all I am enjoying my old age, doing what I love to do.
